Day 1
Start your journey to Burma today and head to Yangon on an overnight flight.
Day 2
Arrive in Yangon, Burma's former capital. Transfer to your hotel. After some time at leisure at your hotel, depart for a half day city tour of Yangon finishing at the most revered Buddisht temple in Burma; the Shwedagon Pagoda.
Day 3
This morning take a privately guided walking tour of Yangon. Start at the Yangon Heritage Trust office to learn about the progress and challenges faced in preserving the city buildings before setting off on foot for your tour. You will visit sites such as Scotts Market, Sule Pagoda, City Hall, Gandhi Hall and Aung San Old House. This afternoon enjoy some time at leisure before a delicious high tea at the grand Strand Hotel, a place to reflect on days gone by as you enjoy delicious traditional pastries and cakes.
Day 4
Morning flight to Heho and overland transfer to Kalaw by private vehicle. Upon arrival check in to your hotel before a choice of activity this afternoon; take a visit to the excellent Green Hill Valley Elephant Camp or embark on a light walk (3-5hrs, depending on fitness) to the hill tribes around Inle Lake. Alternatively, enjoy the afternoon at your leisure to relax in this former British colonial hill-station.
Day 5
After breakfast, take a visit to the rotating hill tribe market before your drive to Inle Lake. Stop along the way at the beautiful Red Mountain Wine Estate to admire the views over the lake (and maybe enjoy a wine tasting if you fancy!). Head down towards Inle Lake and check in to your hotel. Embark on a private boat tour this afternoon to explore the lake - pass by leg rowing fishermen, floating gardens and visit the local stilted villages on the lake.
Day 6
Full day at your leisure on Inle Lake
Day 7
Morning flight to Mandalay, where you will be met by your private driver and guide. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the former Royal Capitals of Ava, Amarapura & Sagaing. Finish your day with a stroll along the U Bein Bridge as the sun sets over Mandalay.
Day 8
Depart in the early morning on a wonderfully insightful tour of Mandalay to partake in the morning activities, just like a local. Join Buddhist worshipers as they enjoy their early morning rituals at a local temple, witness the monks collecting alms around the city and venture through the busy morning market. Towards the end of the morning, tuck into a bowl of fresh noodles while rubbing shoulders with the locals. Spend the afternoon at your leisure to explore Mandalay further at your own pace or enjoy a day trip out of the city to Pyin Oo Lwin or Shwebo.
Day 9
For tours between September-March, take a day cruise down the Irrawaddy to reach Bagan. Stop along the way at a local village and learn more about life in rural Burma. If the river levels are too low, we recommend taking the short flight to Bagan and enjoy the rest of the day sightseeing around the temple studded plains.
Day 10
Start your day with a guided tour of Bagan for a fantastic introduction to the local culture, history and lifestyles. Visit the most famous temples in the area, handicraft workshops and a small village to meet the friendly locals. After discovering the secrets behind Bagan, spend the rest of the day exploring further at your own pace.
Day 11
Today enjoy an optional activity included in your tour; a traditional cooking class, cycling through the temples or a lacquerware painting lesson in a traditional workshop, or alternatively take a day at your leisure to relax. Alternative optional tours can also be added - please enquire for some suggestions.
Day 12
Morning flight to Thandwe to end your holiday relaxing on breathtakingly beautiful Ngapali Beach. For those looking for a little more adventure you can enjoy local boat trips, snorkelling tours, visits to the morning fishing village and plenty of cycling along the coast. For seafood lovers, Ngapali is heaven!
